Botanical Description

Anthurium (c. Lat. Anthurium) - a plant from the genus evergreen, the Aroid family. Homeland: Anthurium grows on the islands of the Caribbean archipelago, as well as in the tropics and subtropics of America. From Latin, its name can be translated as Flowertail, where "anthos" is a flower, and "oura" is a tail.

These flowers do not require special care for themselves, easily come to their senses after trouble. In height, home varieties reach ninety centimeters.

The flower is not just called male happiness. And that's why:

  • Anthurium is usually given to males.
  • This plant is associated in the minds of people with the masculine qualities of a person, such as power, fearlessness, love of freedom, attraction to the female sex.
  • According to legend, the home where such a flower is located never leaves joy, love and mutual understanding in a relationship

This flower was brought into our region from distant South America, and there, local residents believe in the legend that Anthurium is nothing more than an enchanted young woman whom the cruel leader of the Indian tribe once decided to marry. The girl did not want marriage, because her heart belonged to another. And, not wanting to marry the villain, the girl decided that death would be sweeter than such a fate, and, gathering herself with strength, irretrievably jumped into the fire.

Home Care

  1. Temperature.

Male happiness does not forget its overseas nature and needs warmth like no other. In the summer, he will be comfortable at twenty to twenty-six degrees Celsius, in the winter it will be fifteen, but if the temperature continues to fall and drops to twelve degrees, the plant will gradually begin to degrade. Avoid getting water into the flowers themselves - this will lead to the appearance of spots on them.

  2. Watering.

If the weather is hot, then male happiness should be watered a lot, but still it is worth draining the water from the saucer. The outer layer of soil should also rest between waterings - give it time to dry out a bit (but not to dry at all). In colder periods, the number of irrigations is recommended to be reduced - up to about once every 5-7 days. For irrigation, soft, filtered water, without any impurities, is best suited.

  3. Lighting.

In matters of light, male happiness is relatively unpretentious. With one remark, the flower will not feel too good with constant exposure to direct sunlight, this makes it appear dark spots on the surface. But, and with a lack of light, the flower begins to acquire yellow light and gradually die. Ideal conditions in terms of light can be denoted approximately as follows - not too much and not too little light.

  4. Priming.

Anthurium pink grows well in loose, well-permeable soil with a slightly acid reaction. In no case should caking and hardening of the soil. Typically, the mixture for anthuriums is: peat, moss-sphagnum, turf in a ratio of 2: 2: 1. You can also add chopped pine bark to make the soil looser.

  5. Pruning.

There is no need to trim or shape the flower.

  6. Top dressing.

Fertilizing male happiness is recommended once every two to three weeks, using floor soldering for aroid. Standard fertilizers for decorative flowers are also suitable. In winter, top dressing, like watering, should be reduced - no more than once a month.

  7. Pot.

Anthurium pink needs a wide, but low pot, because the roots of the plant are superficial.

  8. Transfer.

When you transplant a flower you just bought, be careful when cleaning the root system - it is not very durable. The lower part of the pot must be drained, and the interchange substrate must be able to not let air in and not be hard. You can transplant a flower every year, taking into account if it is still young. Older plants should be limited to replanting every few years.

Breeding

Due to the fragility of the roots of the plant, it must be divided with extreme caution. Better to use the seed method. In spring, you can cut off several shoots from the main flower and plant them in pots with a breathing dirt surface.

Diseases and Pests

Having noticed alarming symptoms in time, it is necessary to immediately take measures to preserve the plant. Most pests are easy to see when inspected or watered. In dry air, the plant suffers from scale insects and spider mites.
