Design of a modern office or home office

Many of us, with the phrase "home office", involuntarily have associations with a luxurious room decorated with expensive wood, luxurious furniture - a large desk, an armchair with leather upholstery, heavy blackout curtains with decor and thick carpet, bookcases with glass doors behind which the roots of collectible books flaunt. A modern home office often does not even require a separate room, large desks are no longer needed, modern gadgets are placed on small console worktops. But even the most modest-sized work area needs decent design. No matter how much time you spend at a computer or desk - this functional segment must meet the requirements of ergonomics, practicality and aesthetics. We have prepared for you 100 photos of real design projects of home offices (work areas), designed in the most diverse way. We hope you can be inspired to create the perfect workplace within your own home.

Home office in a separate room

If you have the opportunity to equip your home office in a separate room (congratulations), then it is simply impossible not to use it. Many owners of apartments and private houses today work at home. The advantages of carrying out work activities within one's own home are obvious - the most comfortable environment, the lack of the need to get to the place of work by public transport and much more. But there are also drawbacks to the home office - often households ignore the need for privacy and distract from work. That is why it is so important for freelancers to organize a convenient, practical and functional workplace in their own home with maximum privacy.

In order to make up not only comfortable and functional, but also outwardly attractive, organic design of your home office, you need to consider the following criteria:

  • the size and shape of the room (most often the most modest-sized space is selected for the cabinet, which may have an irregular geometric shape, be located in the attic or attic, have a large sloping ceiling);
  • the number and size of window and doorways (the room can be walk-through);
  • the purpose of the home office is its functional background (the office of the exchange broker will differ in design from the workshop of a seamstress or musician);
  • the location of the room relative to the cardinal points (affects the level of illumination of the space, which means - the choice of colors for interior decoration);
  • stylistic design of an apartment or house;
  • owners' preferences in choosing a style, color palette and other design decisions.

In addition to the above criteria for choosing a design for your home office, it is important to consider your own expectations of the nature of the interior that your office should have. Should the workplace atmosphere relax and soothe or invigorate? Inspire for creativity or mobilize all available reserves for active work? In any case, it is important to decide on the basic design concept; it will be possible to refine the nuances with the help of auxiliary elements and decor.

The cabinet in a modern style is conciseness and functionality, raised to the absolute. A calm and even, to some extent, minimalist atmosphere contributes to the mood for the work process. In a room furnished only with the necessary furniture, almost completely devoid of decor, everything is subject to the same goal - the maximum establishment of a working mood. Strict forms and simple solutions are present both in the decoration of the room and in its furniture. The only thing you can afford "freedom" - color schemes and possible bright accents.

But even in a modern home office, you can integrate elements in the best traditions of the interiors of English cabinets. This can be done, first of all, by choosing a design for storage systems. Classical bookcases and shelves are perfectly combined with models of tables and armchairs, executed in modern style.

What material do you associate with the interior of your home office? Almost everyone answers this question unambiguously - a tree. Finishing and furniture, decor and additional elements - expensive wood species have always been the main decoration of cabinets, a reflection of the status of the house itself and its owners. For a modern home office, wood (or its spectacular imitation) is used no less actively. Only instead of luxurious carvings and massive furniture, wood acts as a material for the execution of simple and concise decisions in the decoration and furnishing of the cabinet with furniture.

In a modern home office, the most important thing is a high level of lighting. Even in a small room, there must be a window. If you need to work at home from morning to evening, then you need to provide all the options for lighting the room. A light, translucent tulle on the windows (or in the style of modern style and without draperies at all), near which the desktop is located. If you are right-handed, then it is necessary that the light fall on the work surface from the left side. But you need to think about artificial lighting - a central chandelier or built-in lamps on the ceiling and a table lamp or wall sconce near the workplace.

In order to increase the illumination level of the home office, experts recommend using light surfaces for interior decoration. Snow-white planes will not only help create a light and light image of often small spaces, but also visually increase the volume of the room.

Coloring experts recommend using neutral color solutions for the cabinet to create an atmosphere that will not distract from the main thing - the work process. But for most owners of apartments and houses, this approach seems boring, inexpressive. In order to bring an accent to the calm, pastel interior of the cabinet, just hang a colorful picture on the wall or purchase a bright armchair. Accent elements will not distract you during work, but will create a certain character of the whole image of the interior.

In classic English cabinets, blue is often used. The use of various shades of this color is not alien to the modern style. It is only necessary to take into account that the cool palette is shown only to rooms located on the south side of buildings and filled with sunlight. Various blue outflows can be used to finish the surface above the work table - they will perfectly combine with the execution of furniture with a natural natural pattern. A contrast effect can be achieved if you use cool blue shades as a background for snow-white furniture.

Office for two

Some 15-20 years ago, it was extremely problematic to organize two full-fledged jobs within the framework of a standard apartment. Even small desks or computer desks occupied a lot of useful room space. But you must not forget about storage systems and observe the rules of ergonomics, so that the workflow is not only productive, but also safe for health (at the moment and in the future). To install two workplaces in ours, much less space is needed - just attach a console-tabletop to the wall (the absence of legs will help when placing two people behind the work surface) and install a couple of chairs. For modern computers or laptops (tablets), a narrow working console is sufficient.

Another possibility of organizing a work surface for two is the use of a corner layout. With this arrangement, two seated people will be almost back to each other, and will not interfere with work processes. The corner of the room often fails to be used with maximum efficiency. To do this, you can hang open shelves or small modules with doors above the work console in an angular manner.

We organize a workplace in rooms with different functional purposes

Living room

Most often in modern homes there is no possibility of allocating a separate room for arranging a home office. And the owners have to solve a difficult dilemma about the allocation of a functional segment in a particular room of an apartment or private house. As a rule, the living room is the largest room in the home, and it is in it that you have to equip the workplace. The advantage of a modern home office is that three planks are enough to organize it - one can be used as a countertop attached to the wall, from the remaining two it is fashionable to make shelves.

The design of the workplace, which is located in the living room, is entirely subordinate to the color and stylistic decisions of this room. If the living room is simply and simply furnished, then decoration should not be used in the office area. As a rule, in such premises for the working area it is not customary to play the role of an accent, most often the desk, chair and storage systems are executed in the general color scheme of the room and do not stand out in the image of the living room.

One of the design techniques for organizing a workplace as part of a common room can be called a “cabinet in a closet”. The workplace is literally located behind the swinging or sliding cabinet doors. Such an approach helps to organize an exclusively living atmosphere during the reception. But if necessary (usually for those who do not use the office as their main place of work), the cabinet can become a home office.

Bedroom

Another common, from the point of view of arrangement of the workplace, room is a bedroom. Very often, it is in this secluded room that the owners arrange a small home office. At the same time, a desk or computer desk is often used as a dressing table. The multifunctionality of the working segment will help to provide the simplest furniture solutions - a countertop-console or a compact desk and storage systems in the form of open shelves.

In the classic or neo-classical bedroom and for the design of the workplace, traditional motifs in furniture are used. A desk and a chair or chair with a backrest can be equipped with bent legs, decorative elements in the form of carvings. The upholstery of a chair or chair can also have a “classic” orientation - expensive fabric, which is also used to drape a window or upholstery on the head of the bed.

Kitchen and dining room

In studio apartments or dwellings, where the kitchen and dining room (sometimes living room) are combined into one large room. To organize a workplace in such a space, as a rule, is not difficult. In the cooking area, there is often not enough space, but in the meal segment it is not difficult to find a place to mount the countertop and install a chair or chair with a back. Obviously, the kitchen area in the combined room should be equipped with a powerful and most silent hood to not only cope well with cleaning the air of the common room from the products of combustion of food, but also not to interfere with extraneous sounds to the owners who are located in the working segment.

Balcony or loggia

In standard and small-sized apartments, the owners always do not have enough free space. The need to expand the capabilities of their own homes encourages owners of apartments with a modest area to equip auxiliary facilities such as balconies and loggias. The glazed and insulated balcony, on which the necessary communications are carried out, can become an excellent home office. As a rule, balconies and loggias cannot boast of a large area, but these square meters are enough to organize a convenient working space. The main advantage of this way of organizing a workplace is its isolation (if the balcony or loggia is not connected to the room).

Ancillary facilities

The compactness of modern furniture solutions for the organization of the workplace allows you to create mini-cabinets in virtually any corner or niche of an apartment or private house. Even the most complex part of your home in terms of geometry can become an excellent home office, thanks to only a countertop built-in or suspended from the wall and a comfortable armchair. Ideally, such a workplace should be near the window. But it is not always possible to fulfill this condition. In any case, a desk lamp or a wall lamp above the work surface is a must.

Owners of two-story private houses and two-level apartments often use the space under the stairs to organize a workplace. From the point of view of illumination, such auxiliary space is not the best option for arranging a home office, because all the load falls on lighting devices (their power level should be quite high). But in most cases, homeowners resort to such measures from hopelessness - there’s simply nowhere else to equip a home office. We bring to your attention several design projects of cabinets, arranged under the staircase or near it.

To organize a home office, you can use the upper tier in two-level apartments. In two-story houses, space for the staircase on the second floor may be free for an office. Depending on the size of this functional area, it is possible to place on the upper level not only a desktop with an armchair and storage systems, but also a small sofa for relaxing or an armchair with a floor lamp for arranging a reading corner.
