Criteria for choosing wooden windows

The indisputable advantage of wooden windows, unlike their plastic counterparts, is the environmental friendliness of the feedstock. For a children's room or for a bedroom, it will be the best choice. The most urgent is the question of what material the "ideal" window should be made of. On the modern market there are windows made of solid spruce, pine, oak and larch. When choosing wooden windows, the principle applies: "what is more expensive and better is better and better."

Select source material

  1. Windows made of solid coniferous wood (spruce or pine) are somewhat cheaper than oak, but they are less durable. On a pine or spruce window sill, after some time, traces from heavy objects standing on it may remain. This should be considered a lover of flowers in pots.
  2. The oak massif, from which the frame and the window sill are made, is more durable, but has a small weight. If the manufacturing or installation technology is violated, the window will “lead”, the load on the window fittings will increase, and the structure will soon fail. Therefore, choosing a window from a given tree species, coordinate with the manufacturer the presence of several additional hinges.
  3. Larch is the most rational and reasonable option for the manufacture of windows. Its cost is not high, while it is lighter than oak and more reliable than pine or spruce.
  4. Leading experts advise when choosing windows to pay attention to the thickness of the beam. It should not be less than 78 mm. The timber should be multilayer (glued), but not solid - this ensures good structural strength. Look at the manufacture of timber in a cut. The tree should be smooth and clean, there should be no "annual" rings and various defects. The finished window is smooth to the touch, without any knots and roughness.

What else to look for?

In the manufacture of wooden window construction, the technology of drying, impregnating the array with special tools, primer and painting is of no small importance. That is why read all the manufacturer’s certificates confirming compliance with all standards and process standards. This will guarantee that you have a quality-made window. Windows should be chosen from a company that has its own production or workshop, and not from the one that buys a ready-made profile. The double-glazed window can be either two- or single-chamber. More glasses guarantee better heat and noise insulation, but less light transmission.
At present, it is quite easy to choose a wooden window that meets all quality requirements at a reasonable price.
