Bright interior of the apartment in a loft style

The loft style was born in the 70s of the last century in New York and was used to decorate the studios of artists, photographers, sculptors who were looking for comfortable and budget rooms for work and living. Spacious and well-lit attic areas of closed industrial buildings were an ideal option for them. Over time, the style began to be used for shops, bars, restaurants, art galleries. The fashionable loft has also become popular among the owners of luxury living quarters.

We will try to refute several controversial stereotypes associated with the loft style. Like what

  • this style has nothing to do with femininity and romanticism; on the contrary, it serves to give the home the features of masculinity;
  • the loft is suitable only for large spaces and cannot be implemented in a compact room;
  • brickwork is the only way to decorate the walls;
  • concrete is the most suitable option for flooring.

The presented photos clearly demonstrate that the "attic style" can be filled with warmth and charm, small rooms are not a reason to abandon the favorite way of decoration, the use of light colors for wall and ceiling decoration does not destroy the characteristic features of the style, carefully selected few decor items enhance the impression " involvement "in the loft style and emphasize the individuality of the owner.

The light interior acquires the status of "loft" due to the characteristic details of the style:

very high ceilings (sometimes angled with respect to the walls);

Mansard high ceilings in a loft room

wide windows or a large number of them of different sizes (on the wall, at floor level, ceiling), allowing flooding the whole space with streams of natural light;

The combination of natural and artificial lighting allows you to adjust the direction and intensity of the light flux in the bedroom area

the absence of solid partitions between zones for various purposes (with the exception of the bath and toilet);

Separation of space into the dining room and relaxation area

"remnants" of metal fittings, pipes, wires as decorative elements and style attributes;

The central heating radiators in the form of industrial pipes are painted in the warm color of copper, which destroys the dull monochrome of the dominant white color.

the materials used are metal (iron, stainless steel), glass, concrete.

Height allows you to enter such a zoning element as an intermediate floor, access to which is provided by a staircase that performs not only its direct purpose, but also serves as an expressive and decorative accent of the interior.

For furnishing, items in various styles are suitable - classical, modern, minimalism and even provence, but the main requirement is a small number of things and their highest quality.

Furniture of the mid-50s style of the last century is perfect for the loft style.

The industrial style is emphasized by metal stools with leather seats, a stone countertop and the shape of a lamp placed above the working surface of the table

Characteristic details play a special role in the styling - vintage metal lamps and seat frames, recycled wood products, concrete or wood flooring, metal window frames.

A pendant lamp on a metal chain is stylized as an industrial lamp, which was used in warehouses, workshops or mines

Interesting and rather simple methods of softening the harsh atmosphere of the industrial environment of an interior in the loft style are the use of neutral pastel colors in the decoration, upholstery of furniture, textiles and accessories, compositions from decorative vases, forged elements of furniture and decor.

Decorative ceramic vases mounted on a "roughly knocked together" bench harmoniously interact with bedroom furnishings

Contrast as a design technique can result in the use of wall or ceiling decoration in white in the bedroom area, while in the cooking area, bathroom and toilet, a black tone or a shade of dark wood can be used.

Reception of black and white contrast in the design of the sanitary zone

White color - a tool for changing the optical perception of space - light walls and ceilings seem higher, the room - more spacious. The "cold" of the dominant white color can be mitigated by interspersed with neutral and pastel colors. The sense of depth can be enhanced with mirrors.

The recreation area in the white color dominant is located on the site with large windows, equipped with a system of directional artificial lighting. Here, a low coffee table made of boards, on which fragile decorative glass vases and a television panel in a frame of metal pipes are installed, “play” in style contrast.

An "attic" style does not mean a rejection of the conveniences of civilization - modern household appliances - a hob, an exhaust system, an oven, a refrigerator, etc.

The abundance of shades of white in the interior (room decoration, furniture upholstery, textiles and accessories) do not contradict the style of the loft, which takes on a new sound - more delicate and romantic, and the light wooden flooring in the recreation areas or working corner adds warmth and comfort to the room.
