DIY carpet: 7 simple workshops for beginners

A few years ago, the carpet was considered something unacceptable, especially in modernly designed rooms. Nevertheless, fashion is cyclical and carpets, as an element of decor, are again relevant. If you are still in doubt whether such a product is suitable for you, we recommend that you do not purchase it in a specialized store. To begin, try to make a do-it-yourself rug literally from improvised materials.

Do-it-yourself carpet: step-by-step workshops

In fact, a small rug will be appropriate in any room. But first of all, you should focus on the general style and purpose of the product. For example, a soft, fluffy rug, which becomes especially pleasant in the early morning, will look great by the bed. In turn, for the bathroom you will need a product from another material that will absorb water. Therefore, before you start work, decide which room you need a mat for.

Stylish rug carpet

For those who have several leather belts lying around at home, we suggest using them to create a rug. This is a fairly dense material, so the product will retain its attractive appearance for a long time. In addition, in the work we need:

  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • fabric or rubber;
  • a small piece of fabric.

We put all the belts on the working surface and align them. Otherwise, the carpet will be uneven.

Since they should be the same length, we cut each belt in turn with scissors.

We take a piece of fabric or rubber, according to the length of the straps and put it on the work surface. From above we distribute belts in the desired order.

We fix each detail with a special glue and leave it to dry completely.

Stylish and very unusual do-it-yourself carpet is ready! In fact, there are many such options, so you can safely experiment with the shape and size of the product.

Carpet from old clothes

If there are several old T-shirts in your house, then it's time to give them a new life in the form of an original rug.

In the process we will need the following:

  • T-shirts from knitwear;
  • sewing machine;
  • threads
  • scissors.

First, cut the t-shirts so that a long ribbon is obtained, as in the photo. In turn, we wind each ribbon into a ball.

We weave the ribbons together into a long braid. It will look much more original if you use different shades.

For convenience, you can roll them into one ball.

The mat can have any shape, but in this case it will be oval. It is better to wrap the workpiece clockwise, as shown in the photo.

We sew parts together using a sewing machine or manually.

When cornering, do not lay the braid too tightly. Otherwise, curvature may result.

We simply turn the free end to the wrong side and fix it with threads.

Such a product perfectly complements the interior of a bedroom or bathroom.

Knitted rug

Knitting lovers can also experiment a bit and make an unusual rug in the shape of a heart.

For work we will prepare:

  • threads
  • scissors;
  • hook;
  • construction grid.

Perhaps the most difficult stage is the creation of blanks. They will need quite a lot, be guided by the desired size of the rug.

When everything is ready, carefully cut out the desired shape from the construction grid. In this case, it is the heart. This is the result of the mat.

Sew each blank to the grid, periodically spreading them.

The result is a charming rug that will become a stylish addition to the bedroom.

DIY fluffy carpet

To create a concise, but at the same time stylish product, you will need:

  • scissors;
  • plastic mesh;
  • rubber bands for afro-braids;
  • cotton rope.

First of all, it is worth deciding on the size of the future carpet. Based on this, we trim the grid and lay it out on the work surface.

We divide the cotton rope into several small pieces of the same size. In turn, we wrap each segment around the grid and fix with elastic bands. To make the carpet more fluffy, just share the ends.

We repeat all the same until we fill the entire grid with a rope. If you need a large carpet, and you plan to make it from several parts, then you also need to connect them with a rope.

Stylish, original carpet will decorate any room.

Thread Carpet

For those who do not want to spend a lot of money on the carpet, we suggest making the most simple option based on threads.

In the process you will need the following:

  • bath mat or mesh;
  • woolen threads;
  • scissors.

First you need to make several blanks in the form of pompons. To do this, wrap the thread around the fingers, carefully remove it and tie it in a small segment in the middle, as in the photo.

Cut the ends of the threads with scissors. The result is a fluffy pompom. Repeat the same with the rest of the thread to make enough blanks.

On the working surface we put a rug with holes or a mesh. We tie each pompom as close to each other as possible. Due to this, the carpet will be as fluffy as possible.

When the product is ready, you can cut the ends of the threads on the back side.

Multi-colored rug

Necessary materials:

  • fabric or old t-shirts;
  • duct tape;
  • scissors;
  • a thread;
  • needle.

We lay out strips of fabric of different colors on the working surface. In this case, there will be five. Next we put another five stripes, but in mirror image.

We take a pink strip and tie it, as in the photo. We continue to tie it around the rest until we reach the middle.

We do the same, starting from the other side. When the two pink stripes are near, we connect them together. Repeat the same with the rest of the stripes.

Since the mat is rather narrow, we make another one of the same size.

We connect them together using a thread and a needle. Stylish decor element is ready!

Rope carpet

We will prepare such materials:

  • rope;
  • stationery knife;
  • round fabric blank;
  • glue.

We put a rope on the working surface and wrap it, as in the photo. The size should perfectly match the fabric blank.

Trim the rest of the rope with an office knife. Apply glue to the rope and gently apply the fabric.

The result is a beautiful rug of small size, which is ideal for decorating the hallway.
