We choose practical and beautiful facades for kitchen cabinets

Manufacturers of ready-made furniture solutions for the kitchen, as well as organizations engaged in custom manufacturing offer many options for the execution of kitchen facades. Indeed, not only the image of the furniture set, but also almost the entire interior of the kitchen depends on the appearance of the facades of kitchen cabinets. Sometimes, to change or refresh the kitchen space, it is enough to replace the facades (cabinet doors, front part of the furniture). Facades placed on the same frame of the kitchen set from different materials, colors and textures will create completely different images of kitchen furniture.

It is to the kitchen facades, i.e. cabinet doors and cabinet lids are subject to the highest demands. To the kitchen set served you as long as possible, when choosing facades, you need to pay attention to the following properties of the material and method of coating the surface:

  • moisture resistance (a kitchen is a room with high humidity, and it is the facades of cabinets that often have to come in contact with water and other liquids);
  • resistance to temperature extremes (especially near a gas stove, hob and oven);
  • durability;
  • strength in relation to mechanical stress;
  • resistance to sagging (due to the private opening and closing of cabinets and drawers);
  • simple care that does not require large time and physical costs.

And the last, but not least, requirement for facades is an attractive appearance, thanks to which the whole kitchen will look noble, elegant, expensive or creative, it all depends on your wishes. From the frame of the kitchen a little is required - to create a solid foundation of the structure. But the facades of kitchen cabinets should be beautiful, in addition to fulfilling all the technological and structural qualities. The cost of a kitchen ensemble directly and to a greater extent depends on the price of facades.

Choosing the basis of the kitchen facade

The most common material that meets all the stated requirements for reliable and long-term use of furniture is currently MDF. Plates from wood wastes are a material made from fine-pressed fine wood dust. MDF is considered an environmentally friendly material, because the substance used for gluing particles is part of the wood waste itself and is manifested under the influence of high pressure.

MDF boards are strong and durable, resistant to moisture and high temperatures. One of the distinctive advantages over solid wood, for example, is the ability to produce bent shapes. Rounded and undulating facades are in demand among a large number of our compatriots.

Another popular material that stands on the other side of the price line is particleboard. These are boards made of wood-chip material, glued using special resins of synthetic origin. In this regard, it is not necessary to talk about the environmental friendliness of such material for the manufacture of furniture as chipboard. From the point of view of strength and durability, chipboard is significantly inferior to MDF. The same can be said about moisture resistance - if the facade coating is broken, then when moisture enters the base, rather rapid wear, swelling and aging of the material will occur.

For those who are not going to save on the manufacture of furniture for the kitchen, you can offer the most environmentally friendly version of the material - solid wood. Among the obvious advantages of natural material, in addition to safety for humans and the environment, one can distinguish a noble appearance, relevance at all times and the sophistication of the natural color. But natural materials have their drawbacks. In addition to the high cost (and some types of wood are very expensive), the tree must be carefully taken care of - to monitor moisture, temperature changes (which is not easy in a room with a stove, oven and hob), use special waxes and pastes to protect surfaces. In addition, natural wood facades are sensitive to direct sunlight - a change in surface color is inevitable.

To create a clean and fresh atmosphere of the kitchen, a light breed of wood for making a kitchen set and snow-white wall decoration is perfect.

In addition to solid wood facades, panel products are used. Such material is cheaper, because only the frame of the kitchen facade is made of solid wood, and the inside is filled with the so-called panel - MDF or chipboard and finished with veneer. The appearance of paneled facades is no different from solid wood, but the strength characteristics of the material are markedly improved, the problem of quick deformation disappears, not to mention the cheapening of the finished product.

We choose the material for covering facades for kitchen cabinets

Film coatings

Among the obvious advantages of a film coating are the following:

  • simplicity in leaving;
  • moisture resistance;
  • resistance to mechanical damage;
  • a large selection of color and texture solutions (from glossy plain facades to pearlescent or "metal" surfaces);
  • relatively low cost.

But such a practical material as film has at least one key drawback - low heat resistance. Facades glued with PVC film must be protected from high temperatures, for example, you can’t leave the hob of the stove turned on - adjacent cabinets and drawers are deformed, the film peels off on them. From the point of view of aesthetics, film coatings cannot yet imitate natural material with a high degree of reliability.

If we talk about the most practical version of the facades with a film coating in terms of operation and maintenance, then choosing a snow-white gloss will give you the least amount of trouble. On a white background, the settled dust (a small layer) is not noticeable and fingerprints that are capable of shining the mind of the housewives-owners of kitchen sets in a dark glossy version are not evident.

Modern kitchen sets with a film coating, as a rule, are smooth, without accessories and handles. The cabinet doors are equipped with closers, which slightly increases the final cost of ordering a furniture ensemble for the kitchen, but brings convenience and safety of operation, especially in families where there are children and the risk of pinching fingers on the doors of kitchen cabinets is more than real.

To create a contrasting interior, it is enough to order dark facades of kitchen cabinets, hang them against a snow-white finish and equip the set with countertops of a similar shade. Strict, dynamic and at the same time non-trivial design of the kitchen is ready.

Enamel coatings

Enameled kitchen facades are available in a wide range of colors. At your disposal are not only color effects, but also pearlescent surfaces, the so-called “metallic”, imitation of antiquity using the “crackle” technique and even a chameleon plane.

Facades with painted surfaces resist moisture well, do not absorb odors (which are rich in kitchen space), and are easy to care for. The danger to enamel facades is mechanical damage - falls and impacts of heavy or sharp objects, resulting in chips. Restore coverage in this case will fail.

In order for the facade surface to last for a long time, its surface is not just painted, but pre-primed, after painting is coated with glossy or matte varnishes and then polished. The life of the kitchen facade will directly depend on how well and in what quantity all the procedures have been carried out. When choosing products with enamel coating, bring the sample with paint to the light, placing the end of the facade. It is in this place that the most visible signs of marriage are bumps, punctures, cavities, and inclusions of foreign particles. With mechanical staining, such a marriage will be significantly less than when doing such work manually.

The bright, rich shade of the kitchen set instantly transforms the space. The simplest and most neutral finish will look luxurious in a campaign with such colorful furniture. The turquoise of the furniture ensemble, the white tone of the finish and decor, the gray surfaces of the countertops and the bright natural color of the wood created a simply stunning color union in this kitchen room.

Another example of the important role played by the color of the coating of kitchen facades, how much the chosen shade can transform the space for cooking, give nobleness and sophistication, uniqueness. Such cuisines are remembered for a long time.

Dark gray facades in combination with glass fittings look great. For traditional cuisine in calm, neutral colors with a pacified, but at the same time unique atmosphere, such facades have become a godsend.

Traditional cuisine can be seen very often in snow-white design. An alternative to white can be pastel, neutral shades - light beige, bleached mint or barely noticeable blue. Pastel colors create a peaceful, calm atmosphere in the kitchen, because the facades of kitchen cabinets occupy most of the space, which means that they form the color palette of the room.

Plastic coatings

Furniture plastic can be applied to MDF or chipboard in two ways - by applying PVC film to the edges of the frames or by bending the edges of the plastic at the ends of the product. Plastic is also resistant to moisture and sunlight, chips and abrasion, easy to care for (only abrasive powders should not be used).

The color palette of plastic coatings is incredibly diverse, it is possible to use various decorative effects. Acrylic plastic has gained the most popularity. Its color palette is not as wide as that of ordinary plastic, but it can be presented in a glossy, almost mirror-like surface of various shades. Unfortunately, on dark surfaces with an acrylic coating, fingerprints, settled dust and traces of drops of even pure water are very clearly visible. But for such surfaces, manufacturers usually offer in the kit special polishes to cleanliness and beauty.

Colorful shades of acrylic plastic can invigorate the atmosphere of any kitchen. Using different colors to create a furniture composition. You will not only bring color diversity to the interior of the kitchen, but you can also create a positive mood, even a festive mood in the room for cooking. And certainly no one will call your interior boring or traditionally neutral.

The bright shade of the plastic coating of the kitchen facades can not only transform your kitchen, but create a truly unique, memorable image. For such rich furnishings, it is enough to create only a neutral background, for example, a light wall decoration and a bright, colorful image of the kitchen room is ready.

Currently, glass facades are gaining high popularity. For their manufacture using high-strength, tempered glass. Such facades open up many decorative possibilities - a combination with an aluminum frame, the use of a film with a pattern and photo printing, a sandblasting method and special matting pastes. An obvious drawback of such facades is the high cost.

Frame facades of kitchen cabinets

Frame facades, based on MDF frame with glass inserted - a great opportunity to create cabinets-windows in the traditional style. Such frames are perfect for kitchen spaces, where the furniture ensemble is located right up to the ceiling. Even massive constructions acquire lightness and elegance through the use of glass inserts.

In addition to glass inserts in the frame frame of the facade, many different ways are used to diversify not only the material, but also the texture of the product. Used inserts of glass mosaics, natural rattan, bamboo and even straw weaving. But the most popular rack and pinion imitation blinds. A kitchen set with such facades looks original and non-trivial. It’s easy to care for such surfaces, and their cost is quite acceptable.

Glass inserts for facades can be used not only for the upper tier of kitchen cabinets, but also, for example, to decorate the end face of the base of the island. You can store there beautiful dishes that you want to flaunt or cookbooks, kitchen accessories.

In small kitchens, glass inserts can not only visually expand the space, but also make the atmosphere easier. When the facades of a kitchen unit occupy almost all possible space in a few square meters of a kitchen, this can be difficult from a psychological point of view. Light shades, warm natural tones and glass inserts will help to “lighten” the situation and get rid of the feeling of solidity.

Frame facades using aluminum or steel profile in combination with glass inserts are excellent for decorating kitchens in a modern or high-tech style.

Carved facades with arched glass inserts look luxurious, staining with the effect of aging gives the whole interior of the kitchen space a charm and sophistication of traditions in a modern design.

Another example of a kitchen with decorative carvings on the facades. Such jewelry allows you to bring the classic headset to a new level. If you use retro-models of household appliances or “hide” appliances behind the facades of cabinets, you can get a completely unique atmosphere of the kitchen space - a snow-white idyll with elements of ancient luxury.

If in a really spacious kitchen room with high ceilings, the installation of a kitchen set is used almost all the way around and starting from the highest point, then you can not do without the use of glass inserts on the facades of cabinets. To ensure that the whole structure does not press on the owners with its solidity, in addition to glass, you can apply another design trick - the built-in lighting will make the image of the kitchen ensemble easier and lighter. In order to get to the upper shelves of the kitchen, you most likely will not be disturbed by a ladder. For convenience and safety, it is best to install a horizontal tripod around the entire perimeter of the furniture ensemble, so that the staircase can move, but at the same time remain fixed at the right time.

And finally, a few practical tips for those who are already heading to the furniture salon to order a kitchen set, decided on the size and budget for the purchase, but it remains only to choose the facades of the kitchen cabinets:

  • Appearance is the main criterion by which you will choose a facade from the point of view of “like - not like”. Surely you have an idea of how your kitchen should look and how the shade, texture and design of the kitchen ensemble will fit into the decoration of the room;
  • practicality in terms of long-term operation.We all use the kitchen space with different intensities, prepare and clean, treat fingerprints, scratches and grease marks on the surfaces of our facades differently. Decide how important it is for you to maintain kitchen furniture in perfect condition and how much time you are willing to spend on maintaining cleanliness. The choice of coating for kitchen furniture will depend on this;
  • cost. Unfortunately, there are no seasonal sales in such an area as the manufacture of custom-made kitchen furniture. Most manufacturers have a standard size grid and increase the cost if there are deviations from this size range. Also, the price tag of your headset will increase curved shapes, semicircular and wave-like facades, photo printing, additional varnishing or aging products with a patina;
  • number and speed of complaints. It will not be possible to completely avoid aging in your kitchen, it is obvious that after 10 years of operation it will not look like new. From the point of view of the most noticeable flaws, which are manifested primarily in the leadership behind the PVC film, which moves away from the facades of the cabinets located near the gas stove and oven. But the salons will not stop working with her, because the use of film is the cheapest way to create an imitation of natural wood.

There are many options for the execution of facades, an even wider range of colors and textured solutions, design and decor. But summarize the basic information that will be useful to you in the furniture salon when ordering a kitchen unit:

  • the facades of MDF with a film coating are durable, but “afraid” of temperature changes, but they are easy to reorder in the future;
  • MDF facades with a painted enamel surface do not respond to temperature, but they are “afraid” of chips and it is extremely difficult to reorder them; you just can’t get into the right shade;
  • facades with a plastic coating and glued film at the ends are very susceptible to moisture and care with a damp sponge.
