Leather furniture gives the room a luxurious and rich look. Interior items made of leather need special care. Over time, the furniture loses its original appearance and requires repair. You can contact the salon, where specialists will update it. Restoration of leather furniture is possible at home. In order to update the interior with their own hands, different methods and tools are used. Recommendations and tips will help to carry out the restoration correctly.

Color recovery

Any pieces of furniture wear out over time, abrasions appear on the upholstery, and the color does not become as saturated as it was originally. You can restore the original beauty to interior items with the help of their full or partial painting. For these purposes, manufacturers produce paint in the form of a liquid or spray. The latter are more convenient to use and allow you to restore the color of furniture in a short period of time. Spray stains the upholstery without staining clothes and the human body. Liquid paint is cheaper, but the process takes longer.

To properly complete the process and update the color of the furniture, it is recommended to follow the instructions:

1. First clean the surface of dirt and dust. Dry the upholstery thoroughly;
2. In order not to stain decorative elements and furniture inserts, cover them with masking tape;
3. If other objects are nearby, it is better to cover them with a cloth or film. This will prevent paint from entering during the renewal of the furniture color;
4. Take a bottle of paint and spray at a distance of 20 cm from the restoration;
5. After that, leave the product for a while until the paint dries;
6. To make the color brighter, the surface is painted again.

It is recommended that you first check the color matching of furniture and paint by shades. To do this, paint a small area in an inconspicuous place. Wait for the paint to dry, as the color may change by a half tone. If the shades match, you can start painting all the furniture.

Stain cleaning

Sooner or later spots appear on the upholstery. To eliminate them, various means are used, which are selected for each type of pollution separately. For example, to get rid of greasy stains, use talc, starch and salt. All ingredients are mixed, sprinkled on the contaminated area. Wipe the area to be cleaned with a damp cloth.

It is important to get rid of stains as soon as they form. Some of them will later be difficult or even impossible to deduce. Traces of fresh blood from leather furniture with their own hands are cleaned with a rag soaked in cold water. If the spots are already old, use a different method. A tablet of aspirin is dissolved in a glass of water. Wipe the contaminated area with a cloth dampened in this solution. Perfectly copes with the problem of soap solution.

For best results, it is recommended to use laundry soap. To prepare the product for 200 g of water, 1 tablespoon of soap chips will be required.

Stains from pens, markers and paints will be removed with ordinary citric acid. 1 tablespoon of the drug is dissolved in a glass of water. After this, the stain is washed and wiped with a dry cloth. If drinks were spilled on the furniture upholstery, it doesn’t matter. With ease remove traces of tea, juice, coffee will help a detergent. In order not to spoil the upholstery, it is better to use a substance that does not contain chlorine. The foam is foamed and a rag or sponge is applied to the stain.

Elimination of scuffs and scratches

Leather sofas and chairs easily scratch. If the upholstery is not cut through, basically getting rid of scratches will not be difficult. For the restoration of leather furniture at home, you will need olive oil and cotton towels. To get rid of scratches, do the following:

1. Pour oil on the scratch and the area around it;
2. Gently wipe the place with a cotton towel in a circular motion;
3. Leave on for 1 hour until dry;
4. If the scratch remains, the procedure is repeated 2-3 more times;

In some cases, the damage may remain, then resort to another method. Once again lubricate the scratch with oil, apply a cotton cloth. Then, with a warm iron, a section of the upholstery is ironed directly on the fabric. Thermal exposure leads to better penetration of oil into the tissue. If necessary, repeat the procedure. Only a warm iron can be applied to the damaged area. 10 seconds will be enough.

Another remedy that removes scratches is shoe polish. Using a cotton swab, apply cream to the damaged area. It will become invisible. This method does not remove scratches, but simply disguises it. The best result will be obtained if the shades of cream and furniture upholstery completely coincide. To remove deeper scratches or scuffs, use the special placeholder for leather products as follows:

1. Clean the damaged area with medical alcohol;
2. The furniture should dry out within 10 minutes;
3. Apply a special filler to the scratch;
4. Paint the damaged area.

Repair of holes and cracks

To repair holes in furniture, a patch and crack filler will be required. Restoration of a leather sofa in this case looks like this:

1. Clean the surface with medical alcohol;
2. On a damaged area on the inside with a toothpick, apply special glue for leather products or superglue;
3. Gently press down the hook and straighten. Wipe off excess glue with a cloth or napkin;
4. With sandpaper, process the bonding site. It should become soft to the touch. This item is only necessary if superglue is used;
5. If the skin color is different, paint this area and apply a top coat.

Eliminate cracks with liquid skin. It is a coloring and adhesive plastic substance. The set contains 7 colors of liquid skin. To choose the right shade, several colors are mixed.

Before use, the surface of the furniture is treated with alcohol to clean and degrease. A tool is applied to the damaged areas with a brush, leveled. When everything is dry, repeat the action again.

Household and folk remedies

Restoration by folk methods is carried out at your own peril and risk, since the described examples are personal experience and initiative of people, and the consequences can be unpredictable.

Grease stains sprinkled with corn starch, which absorbs all the fat from the upholstery. Stains from a marker or felt-tip pens are removed with nail polish remover without acetone. For these purposes, you can use hair spray. Wine spilled on furniture is removed with medical alcohol. Also stains are removed with lemon juice. Small dirt can be removed with makeup remover milk. Wipe the surface with a cotton pad dampened in this product and remove excess. This method is not suitable for frequent use.

Do not use harsh chemicals to clean leather furniture. Stains must be removed as soon as they appear. The surface of the furniture must not be subjected to intense mechanical stress.
