Antalya Waterfalls - Upper and Lower Duden

Antalya is the most visited resort in Turkey, where millions of tourists come from all over the world every year. This cheerful flowering city is ready to offer its guests not only the azure shores and the warm sea, but also many cultural and natural attractions. Among them, Duden Waterfall occupies a special place, the lower part of which has long been a hallmark of the famous resort. What is this natural object and how to get to it, we tell in detail in our article.

General information

Duden Waterfall in Turkey is one of the most popular attractions of Antalya, presented to man by nature itself. Duden's uniqueness lies in the fact that it is a group of several waterfalls that can be viewed from both the lower and upper angles, as well as from the outside and from the inside. This amazingly beautiful natural object is formed by the Duden River, which is the most important artery in the southern part of Antalya.

River duden

This river originates 30 km from the resort in Taurus mountain springs, runs almost all over the city center, both on the surface and underground. If you look at Duden at its source, you can hardly assume that this unhurried current creates noisy and bustling water cascades. Speeding in its flows along rocky rocks, the river completes its journey, bringing down the waters into the Mediterranean Sea, thereby forming the famous Lower Duden Waterfall. And its course, which runs 10 km north-east of the center of Antalya, forms a whole group of rapids and waterfalls that fall into a large lake bowl and form the Upper Duden.

Few people realize that not only mother nature, but partly the man himself breathed life into this attraction. The fact is that in the middle of the 16th century, many irrigation canals were dug in the territory of modern Antalya and in its environs, from where river waters began to flow in small streams along the rocky mountains. So sparkling waterfalls gradually formed, which tourists today contemplate.

Lower duden

One of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world, flowing into the sea, was the Lower Duden Waterfall in Turkey, whose height is 40 meters. You can admire it both from the observation deck on the cliff, and from the sea. Some travel agencies offer tourists to drive to the waterfall as close as possible on a boat in order to enjoy plenty of rattling streams and refresh themselves in the fountain of their spray.

Nearby is a verdant park, where you can relax, perched in the shade of palm trees on a bench or looking at a local cafe. From the observation deck on the mountain overlooks the city, in the distance you can see the famous sandy Lara beach and numerous resort hotels. In the evening, the Duden Waterfall in Antalya is illuminated by beautiful lights, and a completely different atmosphere, close to romance, is created here. Entrance to the park is free.

The park has gazebos and benches, there are several cafes serving traditional Turkish dishes and drinks. It is nice to stroll in the shade of majestic trees to the sounds of murmuring streams, breathe in full coniferous healthy scents and meet the local inhabitants in the face of snow-white duck flocks. And if you take food with you, you will discover the perfect place for a picnic.
