Is it difficult to get rid of dust mites? How to do it at home?

Dust mites have coexisted with humans for quite some time. These creatures most often live in bed, as the main source of their food is particles of human skin.

Due to its relatively small size, parasites manage to go unnoticed in a person’s home for a long period. They actively breed in conditions where they feel comfortable. At the same time, they are not good neighbors and lead to the fact that a person can develop asthma, allergies or scabies. These parasites must be disposed of.

Ideal home living conditions

To begin with, a little theory about what conditions are ideal for these creatures. These are thermophilic creatures for which the ideal temperature is between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius. Also, they like humidity above 55% and, of course, that there is a lot of food. The food for them, in addition to the already mentioned particles of the skin, is wool, fluff, carpets and dust.

In this way, the bed is the perfect incubator for these creatures, but they can live on bookshelves, and in other dusty places.

At what temperature do parasites die?

Naturally, with their thermophilicity, they cannot survive at low temperatures, such as ten degrees Celsius or lower.

However, high temperatures are also disastrous for them. The same applies to dry climate - humidity of less than 44% no longer allows ticks to feel comfortable and kills them.

This explains why there are so many asthmatics in regions with high humidity.

Is it possible to deal with insects that live in dust with your own hands or is it better to turn to disinfectants?

The fight against these parasites is a difficult matter, but it is very real.. Although, in case the infection is very extensive, it is easier to contact specialists who can permanently save you from such a misfortune. The only drawback may be the need to temporarily move to another room, but not the fact that it will be needed. If you decide to enter the fight against ticks yourself, then below are a few instructions.

How to destroy in an apartment?

For a long time living with these parasites, a variety of tools have been developed to help drive them away from your home. Below are the most common and effective methods.

Treatment with benzyl benzoate

This is the main active ingredient in many sprays, and is also used as a medicine for allergies to ticks. Separately, this ointment is practically not used, but you can mix it with water in a weak concentration and spray the mattress and pillow with a spray bottle. The main method is as follows:

  1. Wipe the area affected by allergies.
  2. Apply a small amount of ointment to the affected area.
  3. Rub with a cotton swab.
  4. Repeat if necessary in a day.

If you feel dry or burning, then you should stop using the drug.

Staloral

This is another tool that helps to cope with allergies to ticks and their waste products. It happens in the form of a spray or drops. In this case, you should first consult with your doctor, since staloral has its contraindications and side effects.

The initial course of use Staloral "Allergen ticks house dust" is supposed to be carried out according to these instructions:

  1. In the morning, before eating, spray under the tongue once.
  2. Wait 1-2 minutes.
  3. Swallow drops.
The dose and duration of treatment are determined solely by the doctor.

Sprays

The variety of these tools is great, in this case, such tools as Easy Air and Allergoff Spray will be considered.

Easy air

This spray is designed to suppress allergens in the vital products of ticks, as well as destroy their living representatives. Unfortunately, it has no effect on their eggs, so several treatments may be required.

The instruction is as follows:

  1. Clean the surface with a vacuum cleaner or steam generator.
  2. Spray directly onto the surface so that it is slightly damp.
  3. Wait half an hour.

After that, the protective effect will be active for a month, if the thing is not washed.

Allergoff Spray

This spray incorporates the previously mentioned benzyl benzoate and also suppresses allergens and destroys ticks if they have already hatched. On average, the packaging of this product is enough for the complete processing of one or two small rooms.

The instruction is the same:

  1. Clean the surface of dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or steam generator.
  2. Apply to surface.
  3. Wait half an hour.

Folk remedies

  1. Various folk remedies show themselves well, as they have been tested for years. For example, you can use tea tree oil, which perfectly repels ticks.
  2. 100 ml of water and 30 drops of oil are mixed in a spray bottle.
  3. Shakes.
  4. Sprayed on problem areas of the apartment, for example near bookshelves.

However, this remedy shows itself best if you use it when in the wild, when you need to protect yourself from forest ticks and other parasites, including bloodsucking.

Do they die from a vacuum cleaner?

This method is less effective, since it does not completely get rid of dust mites. However, it is very effective in reducing their number, as well as possible allergens, not to mention the prevention of infection.

For the greatest effect, use the following sequence:

  1. The upper sections of the apartment are vacuumed, such as cornices and bookshelves.
  2. The tables, beds and sofas are vacuum cleaned. It is worth using a special brush.
  3. Processed floors, carpets and skirting boards.

Steam generator

This method is slightly more effective, since it does not remove, but destroys live ticks and binds possible allergens. Cleaning with a steam generator helps to process not only carpets, but also curtains, not to mention things that hang in the closet, waiting for their season. Cleaning is also recommended weekly. Items stored in the closet can be processed once every two months.

The technique is as follows:

  1. Curtains and wall carpets are handled.
  2. Bedspreads and floor carpets are processed.
  3. Plinths are processed.
Some mistakenly believe that a steam generator is the same as a humidifier. This is not so - a steam generator, it is a device for cleaning things, generating a hot stream of water vapor.

Does ozone kill?

This method is not particularly effective, but it will not bring harm. Ozonation is considered a good way to disinfect air. However, do not rely on such devices as a panacea for ticks and other parasites.

To process the premises you need:

  1. Carry out wet cleaning.
  2. Remove all household members from the premises and take out the plants.
  3. Turn on the ozonizer for forty minutes.

Prevention of re-infection of housing

It is much easier, if this has not happened yet, to avoid infection of the apartment with ticks. There are some simple tips to help avoid this.

  • Get rid of excess furniture with fabric upholstery. It is better to use leather or leatherette.
  • It is also worth reducing the number of carpets if they are made of wool or natural pile.
  • Soft toys also fall under removal from the apartment.
  • It is necessary to replace all pillows and blankets with natural filling with synthetic analogues. This will greatly undermine the potential feed base of ticks.
  • It is necessary to wash bedding in hot water and dry it on the balcony, or by the open window.
  • Once every six months, wet the floor and baseboards with a weak saline solution. Enough five tablespoons of salt per bucket of water.
  • The apartment must have a dry microclimate, not more than 40% humidity. Such conditions are detrimental to ticks.
  • Periodically, you need to wipe all the books with a damp cloth.
  • When cleaning, you need to use vacuum cleaners with aquafilters. They better capture small particles of dust and dirt.
  • It is recommended to use air purifiers with good filters - this will not also reduce the chances of spreading dust mites.

It is difficult to get rid of dust mites at home, but it is possible. Although, of course, it is much easier to prevent their appearance in the apartment. And most importantly - do not pull with the start of the fight against these parasites. Allergic reactions and asthma are not the price to pay for possible laziness or lack of time.
