Shrub rose Cherry Brandy. Features of the flower, the rules of care and growing

Garden roses are usually grown for two purposes. The first is the decoration of a personal plot, the second is commercial use (for cutting and creating bouquets).

Especially popular among gardeners and florists is the amazing variety of shrub rose Cherry Brandy, which appeared recently. Next, you will learn how to properly care for this variety, how to propagate the flower and look at the large photos of the plant.

Plant description

This type of rose belongs to the type of hybrid tea, that is, bred by crossing with a tea rose. A compact but powerful bush reaches a height of 70-90 cm. The leaves are typical of roses, dark green in color with a shiny upper side of the leaf plate.

Large (up to 8-10 cm in diameter), goblet-shaped flowers are distinguished by a special color, for which the rose got its name. The inside of the petals is colored in shades of orange, and the outside in shades of pink or red. The corolla itself can have up to 45 petals, slightly uneven along the edges and pleasant, “terry” to the touch. The flowers have a light aroma of fruit.

Among the advantages of plants can be distinguished:

  • high resistance to rain;
  • abundant, almost continuous flowering;
  • high endurance in arid conditions;
  • high resistance to various diseases (including powdery mildew and black spotting).

Of the disadvantages:

  • average winter hardiness;
  • the tendency of buds to lose color with plenty of sunlight.

History reference

This variety was bred in 2004 in Germany, although it has a name in English. The creation was done by breeders of the famous color nursery - Tantau.

The main differences from other species

  • The low number of thorns on the stem makes the rose particularly popular for commercial use.
  • Has its own special fruit and honey smell.
  • Complex and unique color gamut of colors, consisting of several shades of orange and pink, seamlessly turning into each other.
  • Frequent flowering.

Bloom

This variety of roses refers to re-flowering, that is, give flowers several times a season with small interruptions.

When and how does it happen?

Cherry Brandy flowers tend to open in turn and slowly enough, which provides a feeling of almost continuous flowering of the bush. The process begins at the end of June and drags on almost to the first frost. The rose blooms often and violently (3-5 flowers in inflorescence).

Care before and after flowering

The process of development and opening of buds in any flowering plant takes a certain amount of energy. Therefore, to maintain the health of the bush before and after flowering, it is better to add fertilizers and special fertilizing to the soil.

During the flowering period itself, which is, among other things, the hottest time of the season, it is advised to increase the regularity and abundance of watering. Already faded branches after each flowering are carefully cut.

What if there are no buds?

  1. Wait. Young seedlings that have not yet taken root in a new place and have not come to their senses after planting may not bloom at all for the first time. This is normal.
  2. Change landing place. Perhaps you have chosen the wrong place: the bush does not have enough light or in these conditions it is too windy.
  3. Adjust soil chemistry. A plant may simply not have the strength to bloom, especially after the winter period. Try to feed him.
  4. Trim the bush or remove faded buds. Parts of a plant that have already fulfilled their function simply suck juices out of it. The main thing is not to overdo it: you need to remove only weak unproductive shoots. If you cut the bush too much, you will not get flowering.
  5. Adjust care. Perhaps you are not watering the rose correctly: too little or too much. Or perhaps the plant is just sick, but you don’t notice. In any case, it will refuse to bloom.
  6. More often weed and loosen the soil around the plant. Roots can simply be strangled by shoots.

Use in landscape design

The rose, as is expected in many respects from the classical plant, fits perfectly into any style and justifies almost any variant of planting. It looks good both as a single plant, and as an element of a hedge, and as part of bushes, and in a combined form with many other plants. All this fully applies to this variety with its unusual color and large flowers, for which it is valued.

Step-by-step care instructions

Choosing a landing place

Choose well-heated areas of land with plenty of sunshine.

Attention! The presence of strong winds or constant drafts will adversely affect the growth and health of the plant.

Time

The best option is the beginning of May. Usually by this time the soil is already warming up enough.

Soil requirements

This species needs moist, well-drained soil with an alkaline component in the range of 5.6 - 7.3 pH. It is better to observe the specified conditions strictly, otherwise problems with flowering and growth may occur. A mixture of manure, sand, peat and natural turf in a ratio of 3: 2: 1: 2 is suitable as soil.

Landing

  1. Seedlings. When choosing seedlings, focus on their physical indicators: the power of the root system, the presence of visually strong branches and living buds, as well as the absence of visible traces of any diseases.

    When planting, you need to dig a fairly deep hole (about 0.5 meters) and equip the drainage system from sand or gravel. The soil is moistened to the ends of the root. Seedlings are watered as abundantly and regularly as adult plants.

  2. Seeds. A more painstaking and slower process than the previous one. For this variety is theoretically possible, but almost never applied. Used by breeders to breed new forms.

Temperature

  • Minimum: -10ºС (in a covered state -30ºС).
  • Maximum: + 40ºС.
  • Optimal: +20 - 25 ºС.

Watering

Watering plentifully, about 1-2 times a week (1-2 buckets per plant). Regular. In the temperature peaks of the season, the frequency of watering can increase to 2-3.

Top dressing

It is produced regularly 2 times a year: in spring (nitrogenous fertilizers) and in summer (phosphorus and potassium). Ready-made complex fertilizers can be used.

Weeding

Regular as it grows.

Pruning

Is an indispensable element of care for the proper flowering of plants. Spend several times during the season.

  1. In the spring (before the awakening of the kidneys): all shoots that have not survived the winter, and last year’s faded, are removed.
  2. In summer: gently remove faded buds or shoots, which ensures repeated flowering.
  3. In autumn: cut overgrown bushes, remove parts of the plant affected by any diseases.

Moving to another place

It is carried out similarly to landing. Cherry Brandy is not a very whimsical plant and quickly takes root in a new place.

Preparation for winter

Rose easily tolerates winters in the temperate latitudes of our country and quickly enough recovers in the spring. However, there is a need to cover the plant for the winter. Usually use a layer of peat with a height of 20 cm or a little more.

Reproduction: step by step instructions

The variety propagates exclusively vegetatively - by cuttings.

  1. Parts of stems 12–15 cm long are cut off (obliquely) from bushes grown and strengthened after flowering. Condition: at least 3 healthy leaves and 3 buds are present.
  2. The resulting blanks should be kept in a special solution for rooting for a while.
  3. After the cuttings are planted in a well-moistened and fertilized substrate at an angle of 45 degrees so that the lower kidney is underground.
  4. Seedlings are covered.
  5. Shelter is removed a couple of weeks after the appearance of the first shoot from a kidney placed in the ground.
  6. If you begin to cuttings in the spring, then by the fall you will have completely prepared seedlings.
  7. If there are buds by this time, it is better to cut them off immediately so as not to torment the young flower.

Diseases and Pests

The variety itself is highly resistant to pests and diseases common to many roses, with proper care. But for prevention, they should be sprayed with insecticidal preparations from time to time..

Rose Cherry Brandy can be a wonderful garden decoration that even a beginner gardener can handle. With proper care, she is able to delight her owners for many years.
