A hybrid with a spicy aroma or just a musky rose - what it is, as well as a description of the varieties

The beauty of the rose has always attracted its attention. Musk rose is one of the brightest representatives of these exquisite flowers. However, the cultivation of musky roses, as well as caring for them is a troublesome task. But it is worth noting that roses of this particular species are the least demanding in comparison with other species.

Musk roses have a peculiar beauty and unusual spicy aroma. So, we find out, a hybrid with a spicy aroma or just a musky rose - what it is, what features this rose variety has.

What it is?

Musk roses are fairly large fountain-shaped bushes that bloom at the ends of arched shoots.

This variety includes several species of various shapes, colors and bush height. Musk rose is a favorite of landscape designers. This is due to the fact that it looks best from a distance and fits well into large-scale compositions, for which it received an additional name - "Landscape".

Musk roses have these characteristics.:

  • hardy;
  • resistant to temperature extremes;
  • hardy.

The vast majority are large, oversized plants, reaching 2 m in height. They need support, but if there is none, then the shoots partially lie down, and the bush grows in breadth.

Separately, it is worth mentioning about flowering. First, buds appear on the tops coming out of the base of the basal shoots, and only after a partial fading of the top do new buds appear on the side shoots. Lateral shoots are much larger than the basal ones, so from the side it seems that the whole bush is covered with flowers. This is a period of mass flowering and will last quite a long time.

The aroma of musky rose flowers is quite strong and pleasant., but not all representatives of this group possess this quality. Unfortunately, the finest varieties exude a very faint aroma, or even do not have it at all.

Comparison with other hybrids

Musk roses compares favorably with classical and other hybrids by the type of flowering. Flowers are collected in brushes and bloom all together, forming a magnificent cloud.

It is important that roses bloom in waves, and the dormant period between the flows is relatively short. This is a “tidbit” for lovers who prefer continuous flowering.

None of the other types of roses can surpass the aroma of these flowers. It is so strong that the presence of just one bush in the garden will “kill” the aroma of any flowers. A floral aroma with notes of fruit and musk will fill every corner of the garden. An interesting detail - it is the stamens that emit the smell, not the petals.

Consider the different types of roses:

Growing Features

Consider the features of growing musk roses:

  • Since these roses are hybrid, it makes no sense to try to grow them in a seed way. Most likely varietal qualities will be partially lost, which in turn will give an unpredictable result. But the method of reproduction using layering or cuttings will be a win-win option.
  • For landing plan a well-lit, sunny place. It is advisable that after lunch this place is shaded. The root system of roses has a tendency to rot, in order to avoid this - drainage is important. Better yet, if the bush will grow on an elevation.
  • It is necessary to start preparing the pit for planting roses in advance, because it should be given the opportunity to stand (several weeks). In a pit width and height of about half a meter, lay out the drainage, followed by a layer of compost and so leave until planting. If it is not possible to wait, the bottom should be tamped to avoid shrinkage of the bush.
  • At the time of planting, at the bottom of the pit, make a hill from the ground, set a seedling on top, carefully straighten the roots and fall asleep to the top. Watered before planting and after it. After planting, spud and place the mulch to prevent the rapid evaporation of moisture.

Use in landscape design

Nearby, the flowers of hybrids are inexpressive, for this reason it is better to plant them in the background of the flower garden (if the variety is high), on the lawn, where it is possible to enjoy the attractive fountain shape of the bush and plentiful caps of flowers from a certain distance. Aromatic species are well planted at the bench or next to the arbor. A number of varieties, despite small flowers, are decorative and close, so it’s suitable for the front design of the flower garden, for example, “Ballerina”, the bush forms an almost regular ball.

Due to the natural look, musky hybrids will fit well into the landscape design and will be in harmony with decorative cereals. However, in the classical rose garden near traditional species, they will find a place.

Quite small-flowered non-double roses in combination with large-flowered varieties may look attractive.

It is possible to make this combination monochromatic, tone-on-tone, or to increase the contrast of the shape also by coloring, planting nearby, for example, a snow-white musky rose, a large scarlet tea variety. The large musky hybrids that grow as climbing ones are delightful with large-flowered clematis.
